Often, wetlands have been thought of individually from river basin structures. even though, these days it really is turning into universal perform to keep on with an built-in method in wetland-riverine watershed research and administration. Such method calls for not just sufficient representations of all correct bio-physical parameters, but additionally of socio-political and fiscal symptoms. facts shortage, a virulent disease challenge in developing nations, hampers this international technique. during this examine, either traditional tools and cutting-edge innovations and knowledge resources are explored. A modelling framework is built which in. Read more...

2 The Abras de Mantequilla wetland system The Abras de Mantequilla wetland system (AdM) is located in the center of the Los Rios province in Ecuador. It is a Ramsar site since the year 2000 (BirdLife_International, 2012). AdM entirely fits within the second topographic subregion of GRB (lowlands). From a socioeconomic and management point of view, it is the Ramsar site area (Fig. 2-1) which has been considered by the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador as the wetland domain (56890 Ha). Hydrographically, a large percentage of the wetland system considered for this 2 study is located inside the Chojampe River catchment (290 Km ) (Fig.
2005). Wavelet analysis is nowadays another interesting option to study observed data and estimate missing series. g. , 1998). Furthermore, discrete wavelet transforms have been employed with river flow regression models to achieve acceptable forecasting performances (Küçük and Agiralioglu, 2006). Alongside these developments, there is still space for exploring more wavelet-based techniques, such as filters in order to study patterns on river flow time series and perhaps estimate missing data, when necessary.
Secondly, although the available cartography (1980) shows some water bodies outside the Chojampe subbasin, most of them have been desiccated (due to agricultural expansion) in the last decades and are no longer existent in field, being mainly the ones inside the Chojampe subbasin which have currently survived. Morphologically, AdM is a set of natural swamps and lakes strongly influenced by adjacent rivers. In that sense, the Vinces and Puebloviejo Rivers overflow part of their waters onto the wetland area during the rainy season.
