Flammable Gas, Flammable and Combustible Liquids 33 If a flammable gas tank is burning at the safety valve, at a hole in the tank, under the access cover, or at the discharge valves, and flames are not impinging on it or another car, there is relatively little risk of violent rupture. Under such conditions the tank should be allowed to burn itself out. If the fire is extinguished, the escaping flammable vapors will spread over a large area; they can be ignited by any available source of ignition, causing a sudden violent flash fire that will do great damage.
